For the first time in 30 years, Georgia football takes the field at Sanford Stadium tonight—on a day other than Saturday.
The Bulldogs face their in-state rivals, Georgia Tech, in the first Friday game between the two teams since 1994.
“It’s the last home night game and last home game of the season,” said Georgia center Jared Wilson. “Hopefully, it’s loud and fun just like Saturdays.”
Although there’s still a possibility that Georgia (9-2) could host a playoff game, the Bulldogs are focused on this rivalry matchup.
“It’s an in-state championship to me,” said inside linebacker CJ Allen, who hails from Barnesville, Georgia. “I never won a championship in high school, never went to a state championship, so to me, it’s like a state championship being a kid from Georgia.”
Ranked No. 8 in the coaches poll and No. 7 in the CFP rankings, Georgia treated Thanksgiving like a typical Friday before a game, gathering for a traditional holiday meal. They also held their usual Wednesday practice on Tuesday.
“This is a strap it on, strike somebody in the mouth kind of game,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. “They know it, we know it. No way around it.”
